Radwanska/ Hantuchova defeated King/ Shvedova in the quarter-final of the BNP Paribas Open
World number 10 Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland paired up with the Slovak, Daniela Hantuchova, to crush the fourth seeded pair of Vania King of the United States and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan in the quarter-final of the doubles
category at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California on Wednesday night. Radwanska and Hantuchova wrapped up the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0, taking barely 52 minutes to advance to the semi-final of the tournament.
The winning pair exhibited a magnificent display of coordination and wiped out their competitors with the utmost ease. Radwanska and Hantuchova rarely faced a challenge from their American and Kazakh opponents in the game and cruised
past in to the semi-finals of the Paribas Open.
Radwanska and Hantuchova bettered their opponents in all segments of the game and capitalized upon their weaknesses with great mastery to win the contest. They served with an impressive 71 per cent accuracy, without committing
a double fault and collected 28 of 41 total serve points in the game. The winning pair crafted six break opportunities and converted five of them, while their opponents didn’t avail any of the four break chances they received.
An aggressive start to the opener put Radwanska and Hantuchova in lead early at 3-1. They exploited the open cracks between the opponents amazingly, firing thudding winners down the line. King and Shvedova appeared in all sorts
of confusion at the start of the contest and kept spilling out unforced errors throughout the first set. They missed plenty of easy opportunities to secure points and got pressurized resultantly.
A second serve break by Radwanska and Hantuchova towards the end of the opener sealed the first set to their name at 6-1. The winning pair took 24 out of 40 points in total in the opening set to take a 1-0 lead in the matchup.
Things got exacerbated in the next set as King and Shvedova dropped their games to a minimum level. The two merely secured 25 per cent serve points in the second set and were broken at three different occasions. King and Shvedova
didn’t hold their serve even in a single game, posing no challenge to their opponents.
Radwanska and Hantuchova cruised through the second set by bagging all of the serve games in barely 25 minutes of play. Their return game was excellent, winning 12 out of 16 return points in the set. Radwanska and Hantuchova concluded
the contest in the most assertive manner, at 6-0, to advance to the semi-final of the Paribas Open.
Sania Mirza of India and Elena Vesnina of Russia await Radwanska and Hantuchova in the semi-final round, due to be played on Thursday night. Mirza and Vesnina defeated the Polish duo of Klaudia Jans and Alicja Rosolska in straight
sets 6-4, 6-1, in the quarter-final round at the Indian Wells.
