Radwanska/ Rodina defeat Minella/ Bremond in Quarter Final – Tashkent Open 2011
The teams to contest in the quarter final of the Tashkent Open 2011 played on the Olympic School tennis courts. The second match of the quarter final was a clash between team Iryna Bremond besides Mandy Minella against team Urszula
Radwanska besides Evgeniya Rodina. After 1 hour and 23 minutes Team Radwanska and Rodina scored a straight set victory of 6-3, 7-6(3).
As the two players walked towards the court the crowd cheered for both the players. Opening the initial set was Cirstea. It was an awful start for Radwanska/ Rodina as they were unable to hold their serve in the first game and
gifted the first game to their opponents. By holding their serve in the second game, Minella/ Bremond again broke their opponents by hitting a delightful back hand winner down the line, which the crowd also enjoyed and took a lead of 3-0 in the third game.
During the fourth game Radwanska/ Rodina jumped kicked into top gear and started making their way forward as they broke back Minella/ Bremond. Radwanska/ Rodina held their serve in the fifth game and in the sixth again broke Minella/
Bremond to round off the score to 3-3. Radwanska/ Rodina further went on to breaking their adversaries in the eighth game, as Minella/ Bremond served poorly and paid the price. After forcing a double-fault, the Russian/ Polish pair (Radwanska/ Rodina) served
for the match in the ninth game and as they held their serve, they sealed their victory.
Opening serve in the second set was team Radwanska/ Rodina. Matching blow for blow, Minella/ Bremond followed closely at their heels to force the scoreboard to tick on even terms. Standing at three games each, Russian/ Polish pair
capitalised off Minella/ Bremond’s double fault to break their opponent and go one up in the score.
However, the French/ Luxembourgian (Bremond/ Minella) were determined to stay in the fight as they snatched back the break in the very next game to once more bring the score to even terms. From there on, the two teams continued
to hold onto their serves as they forced the set into a tiebreaker.
The pair continued their neck to neck run well into the tiebreaker. With powerful serve and excellent returns the two teams forced the scoreboard to tick on even terms well up to six points. Neither team letting up predicted a
long tiebreaker run. However, a lucky break for the Pole Russian tandem at 4-3 put them in a 5-3 lead. Once more holding their serve, Radwanska/ Rodina poised themselves to serve out the set at 6-3. Forcing a long backhand from the Iryna Bremond, Radwanska
and Rodina were able to clinch the tiebreaker at a 7-3 win, sealing their straight, though a tad difficult, sets victory.
In the end, Radwanska and Rodina were able to secure a berth in the doubles semi-final of the Tashkent Open 2011.
