  1. Being in the air cadets will certainly be beneficial to you if you're seeking a career in the RAF. It will give you an insight into life and work within the armed forces, and help you build on the extra curricular skills that will prove useful in adult life.

You will also get the best advice on how to achieve your goals. I'd also suggest getting yourself down to your local Armed Forces Careers Office - they'll tell you exactly what you need to know.

They'll certainly tell you to stay in school, get Maths and Physics A-Levels - and enrol on a relevant university degree course. It's important to have a back-up plan just in case things don't work out. I didn't quite make it as a pilot, but because I have a degree I'm able to do the next best thing - and I still get to play with the toys!

Be advised that there are strict medical requirements for flying branches (eyesight, height, anthroprometrics, etc) - but you won't know until you apply. You should also know that if you are successful in applying - you do not get to choose what aircraft you fly!

Each pilot applicant has to satisfy the same requirements, and if you complete basic flying training - you will be streamed into fast-jet / multi-engined / rotary-wing based on how the RAF feel you are best suited.

All that in mind, get yourself to the AFCO and get researching. If it's what you really want to do - then go for it!

  2. Air cadets will help because they can get u D OF E awards wich is worth ONE JCSE!!! and one of the sgts at my squadron is going up in a helicopter so it will! !  !
