That was a weird match.the guy kept serving aces like he was fishing them from his pocket.I made a mental note to count the aces from Karlovic's racquet but after the 30th ace i lost count.

I was actually scared for Rafa.what a relief when he won the match.I guess if he could survive Karlovic's countless aces, Roddick won't be hard to dispatch.

  1. Yea Nadal won, thats a good thing for him, but don't think that Roddick's a pushover. I really think he will win. Roddick has realized that its not about hitting the serve hard anymore just placing it what matters. Roddick has had great runs on grass and i expect nothing less from him going into the match. Anyways Ivo has no ground strokes, he's 6-11, he cant move or volley, he can't even get down to get a slice. Roddick will be a tough opponent for Rafa. Don't be expecting too many breaks in the match from either of the players

  2. That wasnt tennis out there from Karlovic !!! I feel sorry for the crowd how boring it must have been to watch with the  exception of Nadal`s brilliance :) When Rafa got an actual chance to rally his shots were amazing, there was only one winner in that match and that was him. Ivo didnt play tennis hitting aces constantly from start to finish is just not friggin tennis!!! I dont care how ppl react to my answer, s***w them lol Rafa`s performance today was his best match on grass this season it truly was he served almost perfect sure the odd mistake, couple of double faults however he was winning most of his service games comfortably 40-0 40-15 especially in the 2nd and 3rd set. Also to keep patience and not get too frustrated with the way Karlovic was playing...well cant even call it played, cause Ivo didnt play TENNIS! lol I was more frustrated than Rafa was ahaha.

Anyway Roddick next Nadal will take him for sure, if he plays the way he did today no reason why he cant !!! At least Andy plays tennis and rallys !!! :) :) :)

    Vamos Rafa xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  3. it's gonna be a tough match, but andy will win.-

    it's a shame he couldn't play today...

  4. Well in all honesty, Karlovic has an awesome serve (perhaps even better than Andy Roddick). Unfortunetly, that is all he has. He has no game otherwise and serving is really the only thing that he does well. Roddick is a much better all-around player and much more consistent than Karlovic (although he still pales in comparrison to Federer, Nadal and Djokovic).

But just because Rafa got past Karlovic doesn't say anything about his chances against Roddick. Remember, Roddick is a 4-time Queens Club champion and a two time Wimbledon runner up. Grass is his best surface. So I think it will be an interesting test for both of them and I've often wondered who would win in a grass court battle between Roddick and Rafa. Both of them could potentially make the claim for second best grasscourt player in the world after Federer.

  5. It would have been over quick if that Karlovich did not serve 40 aces??? He is a big a redwood tree. I'm glad Rafa pulled through...

  6. that was a really oring match! hoping for a better match with roddick.... Vamos Rafa!!!

  7. by far nadal's best match on grass to date, although there were not many rallys,

    nadals 2nd set was unreal,

karlovic may have one of the best serves in the game but unfortunatly for himit seems to be all he's got

i think nadal is workin really hard this year to improve his game on grass perhaps he could survive roddick

should be a very interesting game

  8. roddick hasnt been hard to dispatch in like 4 or 5 years

  9. Karlovic didn't play well. The only thing was his serve and volley. That is the only reason they got in tie breakers. Unlike Karlovic, Roddick has good strokes and can take on Nadal even if he didn't have a booming serve.

  10. Roddick will be alot tougher to beat because he's got a far better RETURN game than Karlovic and will have a better chance of breaking Rafa's serve on this surface.  Coupled with his near unreturnable serve and Rafa will definitely have a tougher test on his hands.  The results don't lie and Roddick's record on grass has been far better than Karlovic's over the past 4 years.  However, I'm still picking Rafa to beat Roddick in his current form.  He is on a hot streak right now, brimming with confidence, and Roddick is just returning from an injury.  I predict Rafa in 2 tough sets or 3 sets.

  11. Roddick is easy to beat, and on any surface. Despite his strong serve, he doesnt volley much, has a weak backhand, and not much of a topspin backhand to speak of, but more so slices it in a defensive manner, all too often, trying to change up pace, but doesnt really know how or when to, and not comfortable doing it. Plus his groundstrokes is too erratic. He is and always has been an all or nothing player, which explains his lack of tournament wins/titles. He grew up thinking, like most do, especially in Austin, that by bashing the ball as hard as you could gets you victories. He has thought and figured, and was told, that  with his huge serve, he will be most successful, and perhaps years ago he would have been successful, but these days with opponents hitting returns for winners, he is at a loss. Meanwhile has no finesse, style, or all around game, and only frustrates him all too much and often. He is just much too inconsistent to win the Big Ones.
