Rafael Benitez at risk of being sacked by Inter Milan
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Garcia Quilon, agent of Inter Milan manager Rafael Benitez, has confirmed that the future of Benitez with the club is at risk and that he and the management of Inter Milan are currently in talks regarding Benitez’s future
at the club.
"We are talking about it, but I cannot say anything more," Quilon told Sky Sports Italia. "We are neither optimistic nor pessimistic. We will meet again to talk more."
Benitez has dismissed talk of his sacking, assuring the media that he has a “good relationship” with the management. Inter Milan has also denied persistent rumours that Benitez has been sacked, but club president Massimo Moratti
called the situation “a bit of a mess.”
Benitez been in trouble with the club since he made a statement after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan won the FIFA Club World Cup, to the effect that Moratti must either buy new players for the club in January or let Benitez go. The ultimatum angered
Moratti, who said Benitez’s comments “were not suitable for the situation” and that it was “not the moment to ask for reinforcements”.
Moreover, Benitez has not been able to produce satisfactory results for Inter Milan since being appointed manager in June of this year. Although Inter won the Club World Cup last weekend, the five-time reigning Serie A champions
are currently at seventh place in the 2010-11 Serie A table, 13 points behind city rivals AC Milan, who are at the top. Inter have also only managed to qualify second in their Champions League group, behind competition first-timers Tottenham.
Should Benitez be removed from his post, it has been speculated that former AC Milan manager Leonardo is most likely to replace him. Moratti, however, has denied making any contact with the retired midfielder.
Update: Inter Milan announced on Thursday that they have parted ways with Rafael Benitez. A replacement has not yet been named.
