Rafael Benitez believes Tottenham Hotspur have the quality to beat Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League
Former Inter Milan manager Rafael Benitez claims that Tottenham Hotspur have the quality and mental strength to bring down Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. He said that the London club would go as underdogs but that does not
necessarily mean they will lose the game.
Tottenham Hotspur will take on Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League. Spurs have had a fantastic maiden Champions League campaign and have reached the last eight, beating
AC Milan in the first knockout round.
Benitez said that the London club have enough experience to rise to the occasion and that Spurs can definitely handle the pressure in front of the Madrid faithful. He claimed that Tottenham have the right balance and are very good
defensively as well as when going forward.
“Tottenham have enough players with experience of finals and the big occasion to handle it. It shouldn't be a shock to them [the atmosphere]. For such a game as this, you have to be tactically prepared, of course, but you must
be mentally strong,” Benitez was quoted as saying.
The Spaniard insisted that the Londoners will need to play their natural game against the Los Blancos if they want to get anything out of the match. He said that the visitors will have some very good options in attack with the
likes of Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart and Peter Crouch having goal scoring ability.
“Tottenham need to play their own game. They have http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Crouch-c29741 who is good in the air. The ability to play to those strengths has got them this far in the competition and there is
no need to change,” concluded the Spaniard.
Rafael Benitez left http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan after the Reds had a poor season and failed to qualify for this year’s Champions League. The Spaniard had a poor six-month stint with the Italian giants and faced the axe.
There is speculation that he will return to the Premier League next summer with Aston Villa and Newcastle United willing to acquire the services of the Spaniard.
