Los Che announced their decision to replace Unai Emery as Valencia head-coach at the end of the 2011/12 season. It was revealed that former player, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mauricio-c24899 Pellegrino, will take over the managerial duties.
Appointment of Pellegrino was lauded by former incumbent, Rafael Benitez. The unemployed manager stated that it was great news that the Argentine has been thrust with the responsibility of leading the Mestalla-based outfit.
Benitez confided that the retired central defender has been a leader when he donned the colours of Els Taronja and believes he will make his mark on the history of the club with his skill set.
He added that Pellegrino is joining the club in optimum conditions and has the backing of Valencianistas.
"I was a little leader when he played and I'm sure this will mark its path. Has all the ingredients and conditions to do well," said the former Liverpool manager said.
Benitez took Pellegrino with him when he left for a career in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 with Liverpool and promoted him to the assistant manager’s when he announced his retirement plans.
Continuing the praise, the 52-year-old tactician stated that he does not doubt the Argentine’s abilities whom he holds in high regard. He added that Mauricio has proven himself in all the footballing roles he has taken throughout his career, and has the
ability to thrive in the harshest of conditions.
"As a player no one can doubt his courage and his ability in defence. I took him to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 as a player and stayed with me as assistant. I have a great opinion of him, does not have the experience of being number one but first as a player and then as a
coach has shown his level and ability, "he said.
"From a technical, tactical, knowledge, enthusiasm, commitment and dedication is ready. Works and looks much, impose his character. Each one has its own personality but character, desire and enthusiasm will be a bonus," he said.
News of Unai Emery’s departure came on the back of Valencia securing their the 3rd spot in Spanish La Liga for third year in a row.
