Rafael Benitez remains loyal
Issues surrounding Liverpool are finally ending. The first part of the chain is linked with Rafael Benitez pledging his loyalty to Anfield. A couple of weeks earlier, his future at Liverpool seemed doubtful due to the team’s dismal performance.
Throughout the week, the Liverpool manager discussed the situation with the new chairperson, Martin Broughton and they have seemed to be heading towards a positive direction. It was not a simple matter concerning a pay raise for the manager. The club is in a dire situation with issues hanging from all over the place.
Juventus was presenting Benitez with a contract for the next four years. The club is on the seventh position in the Serie A and has had quite a history. They were offering £16 million for the term and constantly pressurizing the Spaniard for an answer.
His talks with Broughton certainly seemed to be fruitful as Benitez had a number of demands, which had to be met. He had been given meagre resources to build his squad, which was clearly insufficient for the manager. He was clearly not appreciating the governance of the club too.
While his players were injured during the season, over and again y, he was at a big disadvantage by not having the quality of players the final line up. Various stars from ‘the Reds’ were considering changing their loyalty with Liverpool. The situation got out of hand, as public statements were made as well.
Players like Fernando Torres left the team in a dire situation when he said, “We need four or five top-drawer players to be able to compete. I want to fight next year to win the Premier League, to win the Champions League or the (Europa League) but new signings have to come for that to happen.” He added, “What is really important is the club makes an effort and brings in top players who improve the quality of the squad.” That indeed was true but not the way it should have come.
It eventually led other players like Brazilian midfielder Lucas to say, “Everyone is aware of the doubts over Rafa’s future. But we do not know what is going to happen.”
One person that remained adamant about the whole situation of Rafa not going anywhere was his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon. Despite the alarming situation, he conversely said, “We have not received any offers from any club. Benitez’s aim is to remain at Liverpool and try to help the team improve with new owners.” About the contract he added, “He is under contract and his wish is to remain at Liverpool.”
Currently, Benitez is in a contract with Liverpool FC until the end of June 2014.
Having just recently signed a player, the Spaniard has rebuked the idea of going to Italy. Benitez came out into the media himself and said, “I still have four years left on my contract at Liverpool. I am delighted. I hope that Liverpool will once again be competitive. My future right now is with Liverpool.
Benitez was just not linked with the move to Juventus only. He was also expected to become a possible replacement for Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan. After all the statements, it is more than likely that Mourinho will take over Real Madrid from the start of next season.Inter Milan in retrospect have denied making any offer to Benitez. Juventus on the other hand are thinking to hire their former Sampdoria tactician Luigi Del Neri as their new coach.
Benitez has a long and chequered history with Liverpool who joined the setup in 2004. His hard work has paid rich dividends as Benitez led them to many victories in the English Premier League. However, bad luck has plagued them during this season as they finished seventh in the English Premier League. The team was disqualified from the Champions League and the FA Cup in the earlier rounds as well.
