Rafael Benitez says Inter Milan are due to improve
Inter Milan manager Rafael Benitez has said his side will improve after making a satisfactory start to the season.
The pressure is on Benitez to deliver titles to the Italian champions, who won the Champions League, Serie A and the Coppa Italia under Jose Mourinho last season.
Benitez' team have collected 11 points in six games in the Serie A, leaving them second in the table behind leaders SS Lazio. In the Champions League, Inter followed up a 2–2 draw away to FC Twente with a resounding 4–0 victory over Werder Bremen last week.
That victory, in which Samuel Eto'o claimed a hat-trick for the Italians, convinced fans and pundits that better performances from Inter should be in store during the remainder of the season.
"Physically and tactically the team can improve," Benitez told the Inter Channel in an interview. "This morning before I arrived here at the sports centre, I looked at some of our matches making annotations. For myself we can improve. Indeed, I'm not worried,
I'm very happy. It's clear we can improve and this is why we are very busy working on the field."
Benitez arrived at Inter after coaching Premier League side Liverpool for six seasons, where he won the FA Cup and the Champions League, but failed to lay his hands on the domestic league trophy.
Italian style has the ball on the ground
The Spaniard, who led Valencia to two domestic titles between 2002 and 2004, said that one of the essential differences between the Italian and English game is how the ball is played on the field. "Italian football is not British football, but it's always
important to have good players in the air."
"In Italy it's less important than in England [to play balls in the air]. It's clear that if [Philippe] Coutinho, [Jonathan] Biabiany, Eto'o and [Wesley] Sneijder are playing this does not make a difference, but the ball will be played on the ground, while
in the air Lucio, [Ivan] Cordoba, and [Walter] Samuel are important."
Inter face Cagliari in the Serie A after the international break.
