Rafael Benitez to get sacked after a disappointing run with Inter Milan as Frank Rijkaard is given a hope of managing the Italian team
The Italian Champions were the ones who came out of nowhere last year and won the UEFA Champions League. Despite the fact that the Italian club had immense talent, they couldn't really pose a threat in the UEFA Champions League and it had been 45 years since
they last won the European glory. However, it was the former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho who got together an outstanding team in Italy and helped the team win the European gold.
Jose Mourinho recruited some big names as he took charge of Inter Milan bringing in players with extraordinary impact on European Football. Players like Samuel Eto’o, Wesley Sneijder and Diego Milito were the ones who helped the club in scoring goals and
even though Samuel Eto’o was considered to be a goal scoring force it was the former Genoa star Diego Milito who actually impressed everyone and managed to find the net in almost all the games that he played.
The Argentinean scored goals against all the big teams that the club was tested against in the Champions League including the Premiere League Champions; Chelsea, the La Liga Champions; Barcelona and also found the net against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions
League final played at the Santiago Bernabeu.
It was the Santiago Bernabeu which was soon to become the home of Jose Mourinho as he signed a contract with the Spanish Giants Real Madrid and left Inter Milan days after winning the Champions League title with them.
The Italian side then appointed the Spanish manager and the former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez to follow the steps of Jose Mourinho. Rafael Benitez did have a decent record for Liverpool. The Spanish manager helped the club win the UEFA Champions League
but apart from never being able to win the Premiere league, managed to drag Liverpool to 7th place at the end of his last season at Anfield.
With Rafael Benitez being in charge of Inter Milan, the world saw the team failing and currently they sit nine points behind AC Milan who are leading the points table. AC Milan are the local rivals of Inter Milan and they both share the same home ground.
Inter Milan were to host AC Milan at the San Siro and it was the former Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic who became the goal scorer for AC Milan as he managed to find the back of the net through a penalty he himself won.
With Inter Milan on a losing streak and Benitez not entirely convincing with his strategy to counter that, the club might be considering their options. According to
Gazzetta dello Sport, a list is being formulated by Inter's Director Marco Branca which includes potential replacements for Benitez if the Spaniard isn't able to turn tables in the near future. Benitez on the other hand will be hoping his side comes
out on top in their next match against chievo. Losing against them will only fuel more speculation regarding his future at Inter and with managers like Carlos Dunga, Frank Rijkaard and Leonardo currently not contracted with any team, it won't be surprising
if Benitez is shown a way to the exit door.
