Bourdy has done well in the previous season, pulling in some strong finishes but has been winless for considerable period of time. He also remained bogey-free throughout the day, carding a round of six-under, 66.
The 29-year-old Frenchman has seven professional victories on his belt with three of them coming on the European Tour.
Colsaerts has done remarkably well since the beginning of the season and although he has not been able to land a title as yet, his performances are surely pushing him towards the victory stand.
Another blistering six-under, 66 on the opening day of the event, the Belgian pulled in five birdies and an eagle on the last hole, to stay in contention for the title.
A terrible bogey at par-four, 12th forced him to fall back. He finished for a joint ninth at Commercialbank Qatar Masters and is rightly poised to bag his ninth professional and second European Tour title of his career.
Thomas Bjorn has most certainly taken up the sport seriously after pushing for contention in consecutive events since the beginning of the year.
The grizzled Dane carded eight birdies in the opening 18-hole stretch and dropped two shots.
Bjorn said, before his bid in Commercialbank Qatar Masters, "I went through a spell of not finding golf all that much fun anymore, and maybe a little bit of falling out of love with the game and the travelling".
He added, "So I made a decision that if I was going to play this game, I wanted to be able to be competitive and play with the best players in the world, and to do that I had to totally refocus myself on golf. I enjoy my travels, I enjoy being out here, and I promised myself that I was going to have a good finish to my career”.
Bjorn has won three titles last year and has surfaced as a new potent threat on the tour.
South African Jbe Kruger is aiming high after carding two-under on the back nine and has made the turn to pull in three more birdies on the opening four holes.
He is currently tied for the third place alongside Jeev Milkha Singh, Oscar Floren and Romain Wattel.
