Rafael Cabrera-Bello reaches semi final at the Volvo World Match Play Championship
Rafael Cabrera-Bello played well at the Volvo World Match Play Championship, reaching the semi finals at the mega event.
The 27-year-old Spanish amazed the spectators and his fans, at the home course of Finca Cortesin, Casares in Andalucía, Spain.
He was close to victory on Sunday, however, his chances to win were eliminated by the 32-year-old Graeme McDowell on Sunday.
Rafael started the tournament on Thursday, and faced the tough Martin Kaymer in the first round. He was so committed to golf that he could not afford to face a defeat.
He cheered all his fans for winning and displaying such a stunning performance against Kaymer. Rafael crushed all the Kaymer’s expectations from the tournament and stepped to the second round.
In the second round, he defeated Robert Finch by 4&2 scores. Rafael was again impressive throughout the day and grabbed a place in the third round.
Rafael played well on Saturday first half, against Robert Karlsson. Rafael defeated Karlsson in an amazing style and was also confident for the European Tour staged event’s glory.
In the quarter finals, he faced Alvaro Quiros and again displayed an amazing performance against him. He won the round by a two-point lead and eliminated Quiros.
“I got to play with a friend in Alvaro – I’m very happy for me but I feel sorry for him, and he's such a good guy,” said Rafael. “We had a good match today. I feel like I'm playing really good”.
“This morning I recovered in a tough game, being two down with five to play, and now this afternoon, three down after nine and being able to win, I feel really proud of that”.
He said before the semi finals: “I'm going to try my best and I'm playing good. Hopefully I can start as good as I did on my first two matches and if I don't, I know I can come from behind and make it through. So we'll just see what happens”.
He reached the semi finals and faced Graeme McDowell. Rafael faced a tough time on Sunday and was unable to score well. McDowell defeated him and reached the finals.
McDowell and Nicolas Colsaerts played the final round and Colsaerts became the proud winner of the European Tour event.
