Rafael Munoz Perez dominates Men’s 100m butterfly semi-finals – European Swimming Championships
Rafael Munoz Perez of Spain dominated the semi-final of Men’s 100m butterfly on day one of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Thursday, November 22.
Munoz Perez stifled hopes of his opponents in the 100m discipline as he rushed is way towards the finishing wall for fastest qualification spot in the playoff.
With his unrelenting efforts in the semi-final, Munoz Perez remained prominently ahead of his rivals and cemented his place in the final as top contender for gold medal.
He enjoyed a comfortable lead over his strongest opponent and surfaced on the finishing end for top position by producing a wonderful time of 50.68 seconds.
His fastest qualification effort remained 0.38 seconds ahead of Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia, who stayed 0.38 seconds behind and clocked a nice time of 51.06 seconds for second position.
The second fastest finisher was followed by Romain Sassot of France, who stayed 0.05 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and transpired on the finishing end for third place by reporting a time of 51.11 seconds.
Similarly, Sassot remained 0.06 seconds faster from Medhy Metella of France, who proved his mettle for fourth position of the race by producing a time of 51.17 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Peter Mankoc of Slovenia, who stayed 0.10 seconds slower and posted an effort of 51.27 seconds.
Mankoc was followed by Joeri Verlinden of Netherlands, who stayed 0.02 seconds slower from his former finisher and reached the finishing end for sixth place by reporting a time of 51.29 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was secured by Bence Pulai of Hungary, who stayed 0.23 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 51.52 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Yauhen Tsurkin of Bulgaria, who stayed 0.02 seconds slower from his former finisher and posted an effort of 51.54 seconds.
In addition, Munoz was extremely happy with his top finish in the race and articulated that he would try hard to capture gold medal of the event by outshining his opponents in the playoff.
