As Wimbledon came to an end just a few weeks ago, the US Open has now become the much awaited tournament for tennis fanatics. The US Open is the fourth and last tennis Grand Slam Championship which is held during the year and the hype created for this grand tournament is beyond words as people from all over the world prepare themselves for this huge competition. This year it is scheduled to commence on 30th August.
Before the actual tournament starts, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) have planned to host the 15th annual Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day on the 28th of August and it will be taking place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre in Flushing, New York. This pre US Open event will be a chance for fans and their family to enjoy themselves to a full extent and party their hearts out before the series of serious tennis matches begin when no one will want to set their eyes off the court.
The Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day was established in order to honour one of the tennis legends, Arthur Ashe. It is taken as an opportunity to introduce young children to the great game of tennis and also provides entertainment to the entire family. A fraction of the profits made by this event are given to the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network, which is an organization which aims to groom children with the help of tennis and education. One of the founders of this organization was Arthur Ashe himself and it was established in 1969. Since then, it has been helping those who have the talent for tennis but do not have the funding to develop their game regardless of their race, gender and financial status. Hence, this is a day for everyone to have fun in order to promote a good cause.
The main attraction at this event will be the participation of tennis stars such as Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Kim Clijsters and Novak Djokovic, who are some of the leading players in the world of professional tennis at present. Rafael Nadal recently won at the Wimbledon Championship and is one of the expected champions at the US Open. Roddick, Djokovic and Clijsters are also remarkable players and make it in the top ten tennis players all around the world.
People attending these celebrations will get a chance to see their favourite tennis players perform in exhibition matches and will also be able to participate in skills competitions with these tennis celebrities. Hosting this show will be the stunning American actress Adrienne Bailon paired up with the well known Canadian MTV VJ Quddus. These two talented individuals are known for these active natures and ability to keep their audiences entertained. They are definitely going to make this a day to remember and will not let the energy go down among the hundreds of people who are expected to be a part of this spectacular event.
