Rafael Nadal, David Nalbandian receive ATP ACES for Charity grants – Tennis News
Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championship hosted the inauguration ceremony of three grants from ATP ACES for charity purposes on October 2nd
at the Ariake Coliseum. Rafael Nadal and David Nalbandian accompanied by the director of the tournament, Nao Kawatei, to collect grants for their respective Charity Foundations. Two kids from Sendai and Fukushima who were the survivors from the devastating
earth quake were called upon to present the cheques along with ATP Chief Executive Officer, Brad Drewett.
Nadal’s foundation works for handicapped kids nurturing them using sporting activities for their mental and physical growth. Rafael Nadal, while receiving the cheque, mentioned to the media that he was pleased at receiving this
grant which would help his foundation in the on-going projects like Vicente Ferrer Foundation in Antapur, India; the Special Olympics; and the Aldeas Infantiles SOS.
Nalbandian’s foundation, on the other hand, motivates the disabled people. It provides an atmosphere that diminishes the feeling of inferiority in the disabled and boosts their morale to lead a normal life. David is looking forward
to start a Rehabilitation Centre that will access around 120,000 people across the globe. While speaking to media David mentioned that it is always helpful to receive some grants like that because it is very difficult in these crunch situations to run a foundation
of your own.
The ATP Director is looking forward to use this initiative to commence a project that will help rebuild the flood affected areas in Eastern Japan and would also finance the Tennis groups to help raise the awareness of Tennis amongst
local youth. He said that this grant will help him support the above mentioned activities in Japan. Japan Red Cross is entitled to receive the donations that will support Brad Drewett in his mission to re-settle the un-settled the Japanese who suffered through
several Earth quake in this past five years.
ATP’s governing organization was the main founder of ATP ACES charity program provides an opportunity to praise the work of top seed ATP players who are working for the welfare of the community. These types of events usually up-lift
the morale of other players and draw them to these philanthropist activities. This activity will help in promoting tennis amongst youth and will undeniably help the rehabilitation process across the globe.
ATP ACES has been recorded to have given twelve grants this year. This includes US$10,000 per year honoured for charitable purposes recommended by ATP world tour and players tournament.
