Rafael Nadal: “Abu Dhabi is a test for me” – Tennis News
Former world number one, Rafael Nadal, who was struggling from a chronic knee injury since the past six months, will place a step at the hard courts of Abu Dhabi. The Mubadala Tennis Championships is the final destination for the
26-year-old Spanish hero who witnessed a terrible time with a niggling knee injury that forced him to stay out of action from London Olympics, US Open as well as the Barclays Association of Tennis Professionals World Tour Finals.
It seemed like the Spaniard will get back to the tennis field with the aim of winning the match but things have changed at the moment. The left-handed Spaniard is looking to regain some match fitness by participating in the tournament
at Dubai. He isn’t seeking any title or gruelling hardcore matches for the time being. He only wants to get the feel of the court.
Stating to the local reporters of Marca, Nadal said, “Abu Dhabi is a test for me. My goal is not that week, nor Australia or Doha. My goal is to get fit, recover from all my feelings and feel quite ready, responsive knee. The only
thing I care is the knee. The idea is to go from there. Do not give much value to what will play next month and a half or two months. My season, my real goal is to start in perfect conditions in Indian Wells and Miami and reached Monte-Carlo with good feelings,
face in good condition the clay season.”
It is good to know that the 11-time Grand Slam Champion isn’t taking a toll of missed tournaments on his back and wants to make a fast winning comeback which may in turn hurt him more and maybe push him towards a career-threatening
injury. He is just 26 and should continue to play the tough tennis for at least three to four years. Therefore, the decision to not pressurize the body parts especially the knee on the comeback is the right one and in favour for the longevity of his career.
The Mubadala Tennis Championships begins at Abu Dhabi from 27 December.
