Rafael Nadal: King of Clay – Tennis Special (Part Three)
Going through the life of the legendary tennis icon I must say that I’m impressed by his bravery and true commitment to the sport. Moreover, the records of Nadal continue to grow. He is the one of the three men in the history of
modern era of tennis to win all four Grand Slams and the Olympics gold medal in their professional career.
Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters belongs to the Spaniard. He clubbed this title for the eighth consecutive year in 2012 and became the only player in the world of tennis to win any title that many times in a professional career. Such
is the class of the Spanish number one who has owned the clay court season for the past eight years.
Earlier this month, he ousted the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the final of the Italian Open to claim the title. However, the blue clay court of the Mutua Madrid Open, used for the first time, proved to be a disaster
for him. He was unable to defend his title at Madrid and lost his second rank to the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, but claimed it back with the title in Rome.
An interesting thing about him is that he has not left his home yet. He still lives along with his parents and siblings. He has a childhood girlfriend, Xisca, who is often found in the player’s box beside his coach, family members
and agent. He is a simple man and lives a very ordinary life; goes fishing in his father’s boat and rides Kia for travelling in Spain. Funny fact is that he can’t bear loneliness and his mom often states that she finds him sleeping with his television and
lights on whenever he is home alone.
Nadal has setup his charity foundation with the name of ‘Rafa Nadal Foundation’ that encourages special sporting events and uses them to support the underprivileged, handicapped and socially excluded people. It is something that
should be done by every famous player because they have earned a whole lot of money that goes wasted if they just keep it with them; helping poor and needy people will just help them utilize some part of their earnings for a good cause and philanthropist acts
often reap fruitful returns in a direct or sometimes indirect fashion.
There is also a novel that is been written on the Spaniard named “Juego, set i partido” by the Spanish author, Jordi Sierra i Farba. In the novel he has mentioned the dedication and courage of Nadal that made him the man he is
at the moment. There are also some lessons on friendship and this novel is taught to the kids who need to build some willpower and enthusiasm in them to achieve their goals. If some of you are wondering that what does the name of the novel means, it goes like
that (Juego, game, set and match).
In 2003, scientists of the Observatorio Astronomico de Mallorca named the asteroid belt, 128036 Rafaelnadal. It was named in his honour and that is something he will be proud of all his life.
Rafa’s life is full of adventures, hard work, turnarounds, commitment and willpower. It is something that everyone needs to embrace before they lookout for the goals of their life. “Vamos Rafa” – Champion of champions!
