Even if it’s a charity match or any title match, the crowd worldwide loves to see a competition between two of the greatest players ever in the history of Tennis- Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
The match turned out to be as exciting as everyone expected it to be and both the players gave their best to overcome in the match.
The match was decided in three sets and both the players thrilled the crowd in the Hallenstadion arena. The arena was sold out in a record two minutes and the play started with the dominance of the World number one player Rafael Nadal.
Nadal won a double break point in the ninth game and capitalised on the opportunity he had. He took the first set 6-4. Prior to the match, Federer had joked in a promotional video for the match that he would give the first set as a gift to Nadal after he
accepted the invitation to play in Switzerland.
Soon after the first set where Nadal had looked to be the dominant of the two, Federer switched gears and attacked Nadal taking a 3-0 lead in a very short time. He served well in the set and claimed the second set 6-3 making it one set all at that stage.
In the third set, Federer proved to be dominant again and won the last four games in the third set. He had faced break points but he got out of trouble with his aces. The win in the final set gave him an overall victory of 4-6, 6-3, and 6-3.
After the match Federer commented, “It’s really difficult to play today. We haven’t had any practice on this court – they build it up, tear it down – but it was for a great cause. I’m so happy Rafa came here today. We tried our best to put in a good effort
and I thought the crowds were amazing.”
Nadal also enjoyed the match although he lost the match but he was happy because of the cause that brought the two players together for the match. He also said that it wasn’t easy playing on a new court. He said, “It wasn’t an easy match with new conditions,
no days of preparation… The important thing is what he said is the money for the Foundation, for very good causes, for the kids, for the people that really need help, so I’m very happy to be part of this event. Thank you to Roger who invited me here. It was
an unforgettable experience.”
The last time both these players competed against each other was at the ATP World Tour finals where Federer was the better of the two and won his match in a three-set encounter. The match played then was for a total different cause.
Both the players will once again entertain the crowds today in their second match and the proceeds will go for kids’ welfare in Africa.
