Rafael Nadal anxious about Mubadala World Tennis Championship – Tennis News
World number four, Rafael Nadal, is apprehensive about his return to the courts of competitive tennis after six months. The Spaniard was infected with a knee injury in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships this year,
suffering a heavy loss at the hands of Czech rival, Lukas Rosol.
In an interview, he told the media, “I have my doubts. It's normal, we are talking about a knee, so of course I am afraid to see how it is going respond. But I can only trust my doctors and believe in myself and that everything
will be all right. I'm prepared to accept that at the start my knee might not respond well and I may have to take it easy, mixing periods of play and rest for the first three months.”
The left-hander professional will take part in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship taking place at the Zayed Sports City in the Abu Dhabi. If luck favours the British number one, Andy Murray, he will encounter Nadal in the semi-final
rounds on 28th December.
2012 has been one of the most dreadful years for the 26-year-old, Nadal, as he was unable to defend his Beijing 2008 Olympics gold medal and couldn’t become the flag bearer in the opening ceremony. His absence definitely served
to the advantage of the Swiss veteran, Roger Federer. The right-hander became the world number one after pocketing away the trophy at the Wimbledon Championship 2012 and made a record for being the world number one for 302 weeks.
The 11-times Grand Slam champion was unable to participate in the US Open due to his prolonged injury. The 25-year-old, Murray, pocketed away the crown and achieved his first Grand Slam title, improving his world rankings.
The Spaniard is all set for his new game plan and confident about his campaign for the upcoming Australian Open 2013. Mentally, he is prepared that he would not be able to perform to the best of his abilities but he promises to
return with a greater force in the clay court season. He is ready to capitalize his win in the Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and finally the French Open.
