Rafael Nadal bidding for yet another record at the French Open 2012 – Tennis Special
World number two, Rafael Nadal, is on the verge of registering a majestic history in the world of tennis by winning the upcoming Roland Garros French Open for the seventh time in his career. No one has ever won the clay court Grand
Slam this many times as the Spaniard. So, is the time that world is going to see yet another miracle from the superhuman or he will just bury under the pressure and squander the opportunity? Only time will tell.
Nadal, at the moment, shares the record with the legendary tennis icon, Bjorn Borg, who clasped six French Open titles in his career. However, interesting stat is that, one of the most gruelling Grand Slam tournaments have been
won by seven times by a women, Chris Evert; probably the lady luck helped her to clinch the lucky number seven. Will it be Nadal in the men’s category this year?
Spanish number one has won the French Open title for four consecutive years before falling out to the Swedish tennis star, Robin Soderling, in the fourth round of 2009. However, he reclaimed his title in 2010 and successfully defended
it last year. He seeks another hat-trick this year and he is the most favourite to hold it again especially knowing that the Swede star is missing out for a long time from the professional circuit and not participate in the upcoming French Open.
Stage is set, the time is perfect and the player is ready. Nadal, it’s his time to shine and register yet another record in his legendary career. However, along with his record, one man who is seeking another type of record is
the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic. He is eyeing to repeat something that has only been done by the great Rod Laver in his era; winning four Grand Slams in a row.
Let’s see how the Spaniard feels about his preparation of the French Open, “I have the confidence I am playing well and this comes when I play at the right level. Hopefully I will keep playing like this.” He denied the Serb number
one from holding on to the Italian Open, last week, and that must have boosted his morale just before the start of his major title defence. Even Djokovic thinks that Nadal will be invincible in Paris. “He is always the favourite, even if I win against him
seven times; he is the best player in the world on this surface,” stated the Serbian tennis icon.
Another player bidding for his 17th Grand Slam title is the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer. Talking about the French Open, he commented, “There are exciting times ahead for me. I'm winning so many events and playing so
well. I believe that I can win the slams.”
Stakes are high and three of the world’s best players are eyeing the title; let’s see which record is registered this time around and whose dreams are shattered. For me, Nadal is the only one who can defeat himself at Paris. He
will retain his title if everything goes good for him.
