Rafael Nadal breezes past Marinko Matosevic to enter round three – Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2013
Former world number one, Rafael Nadal from Spain, squeaked past the Australian challenger, Marinko Matosevic, with a breadstick at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2013 on Wednesday. He jolted down a 6-1, 6-2 victory against the Aussie to cruise into the third
round at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event held in Monte Carlo, France.
The Spanish star stayed on path to capture his ninth crown in a row after overpowering Matosevic in straight sets.
“I played well at the beginning with the right intensity, with no mistakes. I was trying to do the right things to find a good feeling on the ball, to find the right rhythm. I played to the right places, and that gave me confidence. I didn't play my best
game, the first game of the second, and he played well, so he had the break. And after that he played well for a while in the next games. Then he had good chances, two break points for [a] 3 0 [lead]. It was not an easy moment. I played one good point and
I was able to come back.”
Nadal thundered into the Monte Carlo Country club in his opening match. He unleashed flurry of groundstrokes and reeled off opening four games consecutively. After Matosevic came on the score sheet in the fifth game, the Spaniard slid the last two games
and clinched the opener with a breadstick.
Currently ranked number fifth in the world, Nadal lost his track in the proceeding set. He suffered the first blow in the opening game and fell at 0-2. However, the Spaniard went berserk again and stroke out six games in a row.
This was Nadal’s 43rd consecutive victory in Monte Carlo. He is currently on his 15th match winning streak. After returning from seven months injury layoff since Wimbledon second round exit last season, the Spaniard is in awesome run
of form. He made a title-round appearance on his comeback tournament in Vina Del Mar where he bowed out to Horacio Zeballos. Nadal then went berserk and conquered Sao Paulo, Acapulco and Indian Wells.
