Rafael Nadal brings down Roger Federer to book a place in the title match – Tennis News
King of clay, Rafael Nadal, brings down the Swiss Maestro, in a gruelling, breathtaking and one of the most enthralling battles of the Australian Open tournament. Australian tennis fans couldn’t have witnessed a better semi-final
than the two kings facing-off to prove their supremacy over the game. After an intense jaw-dropping battle for more than four hours, it was the Spanish number one who came on top with final scores of 6-7(5), 6-2, 7-6(5), 6-4.
A splendid contest between the two legends of tennis was witnessed on Thursday. Federer tried his best to overpower Nadal with all his mastery but the Spaniard was ready to meet the excellence of the Swiss maestro with some
belligerent power-hitting.
Federer came up with an outbreak in the first three games; breaking Nadal’s serve and taking a commanding lead of 3-0. The Spaniard turned the tables on the Swiss with some mind-startling winners and rallies to bring the
scores back to even terms. He broke serve once and the set was evenly poised at 4-4. Federer relied on the serve and volley technique that backfired at him on few occasions but his consistency earned him fruitful returns.
A passionate battle enforced a tie-breaker round in the first set and Federer with all his guile and mastery ousted Nadal to seal the first set win. The lightning quick pace of Nadal couldn’t save the set point but he fought
like a champion and was ready to bounce back at all cost.
The Clay king mustered the ball at his will in the second set and delighted the audience, who were expecting something like this from the second ranked Spaniard. Both players traded breaks in the first two games before Nadal
came out with an all round onslaught and boasted his way to win the second set in style. He was grinding his body throughout the contest but winning was all mattered for him at that stage. With two breaks to his name, he ousted the Swiss Maestro and levelled
the set scores.
Another tremendous fight was witnessed in the third set as both players broke serve once to enter into yet another tie-breaker round. Federer was on top throughout the set but wasn’t able to diminish the enthusiasm of Nadal.
The Spaniard took the initial lead in the tie-breaker and a mini-break finally worked in his favour as he took 2-1 set lead entering into the fourth set.
Both players hung on to their serves in the first eight games of the set before Federer fans saw the decline of their hero. After a brutal battle in the ninth game between the master (Federer) and the superhuman (Nadal),
it was the Spaniard that broke serve. He served for the match and after saving two break points in the last game booked the berth in the title match.
