Rafael Nadal closing up on his comeback – Tennis News
Former world number one, Rafael Nadal, is eyeing a successful comeback to the world of tennis after a six-month injury layoff. He is scheduled to play in the Mubadala World Tennis Championships at Abu Dhabi, Dubai.
The 11-time Grand Slam Champion inflicted an injury in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships where he lost to the Czech underdog, Lukas Rosol, in a gruelling five-setter. Since 28th June, the 26-year-old Spaniard
hasn’t featured in any event so far. He missed the London Olympics and the US Open in the process. He was expected to be fit for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals but the late withdrawal announcement left the crowd dejected who wanted to witness the left-handed
superhero in action.
However, the return of the Spaniard is confirmed at Dubai. The tournament will be played from 27-29 December 2012. It will be interesting to witness if Nadal is able to play just like he left. In an interview, the seven-time French
Open Champion said, “After this long period away from competition with all these months of rehabilitation and now hard practice, I am excited to see the moment to play again is close. Every time I play, I give my 100% and try to win and it will be no different
in Abu Dhabi. Obviously coming back from injury will be tough but the Mubadala World Tennis Championship is exactly the test I need for my game and my fitness. I can’t wait to get back on centre court.”
He further stated that Abu Dhabi is one of his favourite playing arena and the best stadium to commence the new season. He is eager to return back and prove his worth. Despite a strong competition from the reigning world number
one, Novak Djokovic, and the London Olympics gold medallist, Andy Murray; Nadal is pumped up to leave unbeaten from the Dubai arena this year. It will be a fascinating battle especially between the likes of three arch rivals.
Nadal has missed out on the previous edition of the tournament and that has infused greater spirit in his soul to return as a Champion.
