Rafael Nadal denies bidding too high for Wimbledon title – Tennis News
Former world number one, Rafael Nadal, didn’t want to bid for the Wimbledon Championship right after a record seventh French Open title in Paris. He thinks it would be very “arrogant” to think of a Wimbledon glory right after a
majestic milestone. However, his willpower to grab yet another title in All England Club is still there and he will try his level best to dethrone the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic.
Nadal has lost on three back-to-back Grand Slam finals from the Serb tennis icon before the French Open final this year. He would like to change that this time around and post some more stupendous victories following his 11th
Grand Slam title in Paris. The rivalry just gets better with every time these two players face-off. It doesn’t matter what surface they play on; the clash is an enthralling one to say the least.
Talking about the tournament at All England Club, Nadal said, “I’m very happy the way things went the last couple of months and really since the beginning of the season. But thinking about winning another title at Wimbledon is
arrogant and crazy. That’s something I cannot think about. I can just think about practice and how to keep preparing my game, so I arrive with the right conditions to be competitive and win the first match on Tuesday. That’s the goal. I try my best in every
practice and every hour on grass helps me.”
The Spanish number one, who is the second seed contestant at Wimbledon, will start off his campaign on Tuesday against the Brazilian tennis professional, Thomaz Bellucci. Nadal has a terrific opportunity to reclaim his throne from
Djokovic by winning the title at Wimbledon. However, for that to happen, the Serbian has to stoop early in the quarter-final stage of the tournament. Anything is possible with so much competition at the court.
Mentioning about the legendary rivalry with the Serb superstar, the Spaniard said, “It’s great. For me I feel very lucky to be part of these rivalries.” World number three, Roger Federer, is also eyeing a comeback to the top spot
as well and a title triumph in London can help him do that. So, all three big guns are in a race for the best ever ranking in the world. It is just a matter of motivation, willpower and stamina at the end. The player who prevails in all three stated categories
can claim the number one spot.
