Rafael Nadal disposes Marinko Matosevic to reach round three – Monte Carlo Rolex Masters 2013
Former world number one, Rafael Nadal, commenced the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters campaign with a stupendous victory against the 54th ranked Australian professional, Marinko Matosevic, at Monaco. He registered a score line
of 6-1, 6-2 and booked a spot in the third round of the tournament. It was a performance of the champion and he is a true hero having won eighth consecutive titles at Monte-Carlo.
The rumours were revolving in the air about the fitness of the left-handed Spaniard who stayed at the sidelines for eight months due to a chronic knee injury that hasn’t been healed as yet. However, the 26-year-old Spaniard cleared
the air by registering a masterful performance at his favourite tennis arena. He is the King of Clay and the performance on Wednesday was clearly the proof of that.
The 27-year-old Australian lost the breakpoint in the first game of the match; couldn’t win a single point on his serve. Nadal held her serve at an expense of just point and marched to a gigantic lead of 3-0. The 11-time Grand
Slam Champion was ruling the show; winning all the rallies. He lost just one point in the first four games of the match. The lead was extended to 4-0 with the help of a serve hold to love.
Nadal has made a remarkable comeback after serving eight months at the sidelines due to an injury. He has three of the four tournaments and has maintained a record of 19-1 including this victory in the current season. Recently,
the fifth ranked Spaniard lifted the title at the BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells). The only player who has been able to beat Nadal in the current season is Horacio Zeballos of Argentina who defeated the King of Clay in the final of the VTR Open in February.
For the last 16 matches, Nadal has been unbeaten and the reason was clearly portrayed by the hard-hitting in the second set against Matosevic. He continued the onslaught and won a couple of games at the start before dropping a
rare breakpoint in the fourth game. However, Nadal won two breakthroughs afterwards and book a date with the 16th seed German star, Philipp Kohlschreiber.
