Rafael Nadal ecstatic to make a comeback at Monte Carlo – Tennis News
World number two, Rafael Nadal, is ecstatic to make a comeback to the tennis circuit after leaving the hard courts of Miami in the semi-final stage owing to a left-knee injury. Everyone was curious to hear from the Spaniard who
was rumoured to be missing the Monte Carlo Open. However, he is back in action and will take on the likes of Jarkko Nieminen of Finland in the second round of the tournament.
He is the King of Clay and has been ruling this surface for almost half a dozen years. It is always a pleasant moment in a player’s career to make a timely return to the tennis circuit after serving sometime at the sidelines due
to some injury. Talking at the Monte Carlo Country Club, he stated, “It is a tournament with a lot of history for me. It is a place where I have had the most success and I am very happy and excited to play here. I think I have done well here, perhaps because
of luck, but also [because of] the conditions. I believe I always play my best tennis here."
He further added, “I need time, hours on court. I need to play matches and practise to be comfortable on court. I cannot walk straight onto clay and be okay. I started playing four days ago. I just need to be patient and be ready
for Wednesday."
Nadal has an emphatic record of 39-1 in Monte Carlo. He has been winning the title for the past seven years and looks to mark another milestone in his legendary career with the eighth straight win this year. However, world number
one, Novak Djokovic, is bidding to end his throne and takeover the ownership of the title. It might be on the cards considering the knee-injury issues of the Spaniard but if he is able to regroup and stay fit for the whole tournament, it will be a monumental
task for anyone to beat the number one Spanish player on his favourite surface.
Djokovic himself stated in an interview that Nadal is the ultimate challenge on clay courts. The legacy of Nadal is long lasting. He is the reigning French Open champion and no one has been able to defeat the superhuman Spaniard
on red dirt for a long period of time. We have to wait until the end of the clay court season to know that, is there someone born to dethrone the Spanish number one?
