Rafael Nadal feels sorry for his rivals – Tennis News
World number two, Rafael Nadal, is cruising along with some terrific victories on his favourite clay surface in Paris, France. He is yet to lose a set in his title defence of the Roland Garros French Open and he is already in the
quarter-final draw.
Such a brutal and superhuman display from the Spaniard was witnessed in the fourth round clash against the Argentine tennis ace, Juan Monaco, who could just grab a couple of games in three set; suffering two bagels. With this triumph,
the Spanish number one has piled up a 17 match unbeaten run and looks to continue the streak further in Paris.
Talking about the last match against Monaco, he said, “When I had the first break, I started to play very well. Before I didn’t play fantastic, but he started the match playing aggressive, playing good shots.”
Last time he lost was way back in the Mutua Madrid Open when his compatriot, Fernando Verdasco, pulled up a major upset. Since then, the invincible Spaniard has slaughtered everyone who has came in his way and that calls for an
apology from Nadal who thinks that it is cruel on his rivals to lose in that embarrassing fashion.
He further added, “In my opinion, he was unlucky in the first set. That’s my feeling, 6-2 was too much. Later, for sure I was very happy the way I played. I feel very, very sorry for him.” It is probably a sarcastic comment from
the former world number one who is closing on to reclaim his throne from the Serb tennis ace, Novak Djokovic. If he manages to defend his title in Paris, he will become the only man to win the French Open title for the record seven times in a professional
career. No one ever has done that before.
Further commenting on his performance, he said, “I think he’s playing probably the best tennis of his career, but probably not today, especially in the last set. I saw him suffering a little bit on court at the end. He’s one of
my best friends on tour.” Next up for Nadal is the little master from Spain, Nicolas Almagro.
