Rafael Nadal in doubt for the Australian Open 2013 – Tennis News
It doesn’t seem to end for Rafael Nadal. The knee injury vows are just piling up day-by-day. The recent news about the recovery update of the fourth ranked Spanish superstar has placed a bleak doubt on the Spaniard’s participation
in the Australian Open at Melbourne.
No one wants to miss out on an athlete who contested a six-hour marathon finale against the former world number one, Novak Djokovic, in January this year. It is terrible news for every tennis fanatic but no one can fight the fortune
and the helplessness is the major disease that ignites agony and pessimism.
We have not seen the superhuman since the second round of the Wimbledon Championships contested at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in June. The Czech underdog, Lukas Rosol, was his last opponent and he is thought to be the last
person that Nadal has played in his career because the knee injury is threatening enough to force the premature retirement from the 26-year-old Spanish hero. However, there has been no sign of that from Nadal at the moment. He is just delaying the comeback
from the injury layoff.
The tournaments that Nadal missed had massive importance in his life. He won the gold medal at Olympics in Beijing 2008. So, he was the defending champion this time around in London. Moreover, he was the chosen flag bearer for
Spain as well. So, two massive opportunities have been missed by him. Moving on, the Spanish star failed to prove fit for the US Open Championship as well and now the return in the opening Grand Slam Championship of the season, Australian Open, in 2013 is
also in doubt.
Nadal commented, “I hope you see me in Australia. That is the biggest goal for me, to come back just before then in Qatar, but I cannot say for sure it is going to happen. All that is in my mind is to keep working hard to come
back."
He added, “The only thing is to recover well. I want to be 100% when I come back. I don't want to keep playing every day with doubts, not knowing if my knee is going to answer all the questions. I am 26-and-a-half, I love competition,
playing tennis, and this was actually a season I enjoyed playing more than others.”
There’s a lot of motivation for Nadal to make a successful comeback to the field of tennis but no one can turn their face from the reality and the knee injury seems career threatening for sure. However, let’s hope to see the Spanish
superhero back in action soon.
