Rafael Nadal is not bothered by the drop in his ranking – Tennis Special
World number three, Rafael Nadal, will shine once again. There is no doubt about. He is young, athletic, agile and courageous. The unexpected defeat at the hands of his compatriot, Fernando Verdasco, in the pre quarter-finals of
the Mutua Madrid Open must have hurt him a lot but he has gone over it.
The controversy of the blue clay court surface will be long lived especially after the expulsion of the Top-2 seeds in the early stages of the tournament. It is already a big discussion at the moment and the officials have apologized
for their selection of brand new court for the 1000 Masters Series tournament.
A drop in rank is not bothering the Spanish number one at the moment because he knows that he will reclaim the spot in the short span of time. The clay court season is on and he is the King of Clay so anyone who will mess with
him will see the way to h**l.
Sports 24 took interview of the Spanish former number one in which he stated, “Being number two or number three isn't going to change my goal. My goal will be the same, number two, three or number 10. To win you have to beat the
best players in the world. The only change is in the semi-finals but it doesn't make any difference.” So, apparently he is not bothered by the fact that his ranking has depleted but deep down in the heart, he must fuming with anger over the selection of court
and eager to reclaim his throne.
Nadal is still the second seed player in Rome and look to take his revenge from the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, by claiming the title. Title triumph in Rome will help the Spaniard to climb back to the number two
spot but it’s not as easy as it is said.
Firstly, the defending champion, Djokovic, will play his heart out to make sure he doesn’t lose his title and secondly the recently ranked number two player, Roger Federer, will not allow an easy way to his arch rival in snatching
that number two spot again. Apart from that, he will have to save all upsets and in this era, the competitiveness of the sport has risen to the whole new level and no underdog can be written off until he is beaten at the courts.
Talking about his future goals, Nadal further added, “I will try my best to play my best and if I am able to do that I will have my chances to have a good result. I will just try to play the same way I did in Monte Carlo and Barcelona
(where he won the title). The feeling is there and I am happy with how I am playing.”
If Nadal manages to win the title in Rome, he will also register a new record of winning most number of Masters Titles (21) in the career. So, a lot is on stake and Nadal is on fire. Something will burn with his heat at Rome in
the coming week.
