Rafael Nadal locks his sight at the ninth successive Monte-Carlo title – Tennis News
Rafael Nadal, the King of Clay, is back at to his throne where he hasn’t lost a match nine years. He has won 42 matches on the trot and has won the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters title for the record eight times in a row. He is gearing
up for the Roland Garros French Open title and Monte-Carlo is his first destination enroute to the Roland Garros.
The fifth ranked Spaniard is seeded third in the tournament but is definitely the hot-favourite to win the title. The likes of the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, and the second ranked Briton, Andy Murray, has a little
chance in upsetting the left-handed superhuman. Nadal returned from an eight month injury layoff that kept him out of the professional circuit. However, a stupendous return has marked three titles for him; enabling him to capture 17 victories from the 18 contests
at the elite platform.
The knee problem is still troubling the tennis guru but he is not going to give up or bow down anytime. The warrior is set to mark his ninth consecutive title triumph at Monte-Carlo unless the likes of the six-time Grand Slam Champion,
Djokovic, or the London Olympics Gold Medallist, Andy Murray, can pull out a mouth-watering upset. It will be a very difficult task for anyone to stop the likes of the 26-year-old Spaniard.
As expected, the Swiss legend, Roger Federer, will not be seen in action at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters this year. He has scheduled the season in a fashion that enables him to prolong the career considering the age factor that
has definitely hampered the stamina and accuracy of the 17-time Grand Slam Champion.
Other players that has a meagre chance of registering an upset and reaching the advanced stages of the tournament include the likes of Tomas Berdych and Juan Martin Del Potro who aren’t drawn in the same half as Nadal and Murray.
The 25-year-old Briton, Andy Murray, hasn’t reached a clay court final in his entire life. He will be eager to break the duck. The competition is tough and some exciting matches are promised at the red dirt.
