Rafael Nadal might comeback at the Davis Cup final – Tennis News
World number four, Rafael Nadal, is fighting a race against time to be fit for the Davis Cup final tie against the decent Czech side. They are definitely the strongest contenders to retain the title but the absence of the former
world number one has definitely lowered their overall chances of winning the tournament comprehensively for the fourth time in last five years.
Spanish number two, David Ferrer, commented about his compatriot, “I hope he gets better soon because he is really fundamental for us.” He was talking about Nadal after a majestic conquest over the number one American star, John
Isner, on the eve of Sunday.
Ferrer is definitely a spearhead for the Spanish team in the absence of their supreme hero. The fifth ranked Spanish professional misses the company of Nadal at the Davis Cup and definitely admires the 26-year-old’s effort during
the previous editions of the tournament that has helped his country to win the Davis Cup title on three different occurrences in four years.
Spanish Davis Cup team captain, Alex Corretja also spoke about the importance of Nadal in the team and stated, “We will monitor the players over the coming weeks, talk to all those we think appropriate, and go and see what condition
they are in and then choose the players we think appropriate.”
11-time Grand Slam Champion, Nadal, has not featured in any match since the second round exit at the Wimbledon Championships in June. He lost a five set marathon to an underdog from Czech Republic, Lukas Rosol, at the All England
Lawn Tennis Club.
It was that incident in which the Spaniard injured his knee and didn’t come back to the tennis circuit until now. He missed the London Olympics, the event where he won the gold medal four years ago in Beijing. He was the defending
champion and the chosen flag bearer for Spain at London Olympics but couldn’t make it to the opening ceremony due to a sore left knee that has always troubled him ever since he stepped in the world of tennis.
He missed the Rogers Cup in Toronto and couldn’t even participate in the year’s fourth Grand Slam Championship in New York, the US Open. However, the good news is that there is a probability of the Spanish hero returning to the
tennis circuit during the final tie against Czech Republic; probably a sight that is awaited to be witnessed by millions of fans across the globe.
