Rafael Nadal on the road to Wimbledon Glory; but will Tomas Berdych pull off another major upset?
Rafael Nadal, the Spanish player who is ranked number one in the world, has got the golden chance to write his name as a second time winner of Wimbledon. His first Wimbledon title was in 2008, when he defeated Roger Federer in an epic final. He could not defend his title in 2009, as he withdrew due to injuries. He will be facing Tomas Berdych in the final of 2010 Wimbledon. Roger Federer was considered to be the biggest hurdle in his claim to the 2010 Wimbledon title. Roger Federer, however, was defeated in the quarterfinals by Tomas Berdych. Therefore, Wimbledon glory seems to be Nadal’s destiny, provided he is wary of the threat that is Tomas Berdych.
Nadal defeated Swedish player Robin Soderling in the quarterfinals by 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-1. Both Rafael Nadal and Robin Soderling had also faced each other in the 2010 French open final, where Robin Soderling lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets (6-4, 6-2, 6-4).
Rafael Nadal faced fourth seed Andy Murray in the semifinals and won by 6-4, 7-6, 6-4. Andy Murray was also the semi-finalist of 2009 Wimbledon. He has won the French Open title from 2005 to 2010 with the exception of 2009, where he was ousted in spectacular fashion by Robin Soderling in the 4th round. The best thing to be noted in the 2010 French Open is that he won this title without losing a single set; this depicts that he is in full form this year. This year’s performance has shown that he is now 100% fit and he is playing his best game. The French Open final was completely dominated by Rafael Nadal with 6-4, 6-2, 6-4, and the quarter and semifinals were also a true reflection of his outstanding game. In the semifinals of the French Open, Jurgen Melzer also gave him tough competition in the 3rd set, but Rafael Nadal won by 6-2, 6-3, 7-6(6).
Rafael Nadal will be facing Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych in the final of Wimbledon 2010. It is quite surprising for most of the tennis fans that Tomas Berdych has reached up to the finals. Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic were considered to be big hurdles in his way, but he has successfully managed to overcome these hurdles. Through these victories, he has gained much confidence in his game, as both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic were more experienced than Tomas Berdych.
Tomas Berdych defeated Novak Djokovic in the semifinals by 6-3, 7-6(9), 6-3. Previously, Tomas Berdych defeated Roger Federer in the quarterfinals, in what was considered the biggest upset in 2010 Wimbledon. Now by defeating Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, he is aiming at his first Grand Slam win. He has proved that he has improved his tennis skills to a great extent. Not only was Djokovic world number three and a much more experienced player than Tomas Berdych, he had defeated Tomas Berdych in the last two matches between them. However, in the Wimbledon semifinals match between the two, Tomas Berdych completely dominated the play.
World number one Rafael Nadal is the favorite in the final match of Wimbledon 2010 against Tomas Berdych. Tomas Berdych will be the first Czech finalist of Wimbledon in twenty three years. His June 7th, 2010 ranking was world number 13, but playing the Wimbledon final will greatly improve his ranking. It will be the second major upset by Tomas Berdych if he is able to defeat Rafael Nadal in the final of Wimbledon. However, considering the great form of Rafael Nadal and his experience, it can be predicted that Rafael Nadal is going to be the next Wimbledon 2010 champion.
