Rafael Nadal primed for a successful comeback at the Australian Open 2013 – Tennis News
World number four, Rafael Nadal, returned to the practice courts on Tuesday and resumed training after a five-month long knee injury layoff that kept him out of the London Olympics, US Open and the Barclays Association of Tennis
Professionals World Tour Finals. Apart from these three events, Nadal missed the entire Asia tour as well. He was chosen as the flag bearer of Spain at London Olympics but had to forgo such a massive opportunity in the opening ceremony at London due to left-knee
injury. It has been a terrible season for the former world number one but he hasn’t lost the edge at clay courts where he clinched his seventh French Open title in the last eight years.
Nadal told the reporters in an interview, "I think I am feeling better, the knee is improving the right way and I am happy to be on court another time after a few months outside. I am just enjoying the feeling to be playing tennis
another time and, well, it will be another period of my recovery. I start very slow and I go day by day. I will work hard in my comeback and hopefully the knee will be ready soon. Always you have to be careful. A few months outside of competition the body
has to re-adapt everything on court and all the muscles need to start very slow."
The Spaniard is enthusiastic about his comeback and eager to hit the hard courts of Melbourne where the year’s first Grand Slam Championship, the Australian Open, will be contested in the midst of January next year. He is being
chased by the AAMI Classic officials as well but it is highly unlikely that he will risk his knee to make an early comeback. However, nothing is for certain. As for now, the Australian Open is the ultimate target for Nadal but if he feels better prior to the
tournament, there is an ample chance that he might get lured in the deal put forth for the tour of Kooyong. He will do whatever is advice by his uncle c*m coach, Toni Nadal.
