Rafael Nadal pulls out of the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris – Tennis News
World number two, Rafael Nadal of Spain, has announced his withdrawal from the BNP Paribas masters in Paris this month, citing that he wants to concentrate on the upcoming circuit finale and Spain’s Davis Cup final in November.
The Spaniard wrote on his twitter account on Thursday that it was a tough decision to be made but he finally made up his mind to pull out of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters Series 1000 event.
He called the quits from the mega event to be played at the Palais Omnisports in Bercy and he believes he needs time to get fully prepared for the season grand finale, the ATP World Tour Finals, in London this month. Nadal will
also be the spear head of Team Spain in the final of the Davis Cup against the strong Argentine squad in November. He told his fans that he is also focusing on his preparations for the next year, as he suffered some heavy losses this season and needs to regroup
his game to make an impactful come back in the coming year.
“I won’t be playing this upcoming week the tournament in Paris Bercy,” Nadal wrote. “It’s been a difficult decision to take but I understand that it is what I need to do right now to prepare well for the end of this season and
also for 2012. I hope I can be back in 2012 to that great event in the most beautiful city in the world, and hopefully try to win it one day.”
The second ranked Spaniard has never won the Paris Masters event. He was the finalist in the 2009 edition of the event but lost to Argentina’s David Nalbandian. Nadal is having a 66-13 winning record for the current ATP season
so far and bagged just three singles title this year so far. His dominance on the tennis courts was brutally mutilated by the belligerent world number one, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, who defeated him in the finals of six ATP World Tour tournaments this season.
The field at the Paris Masters will be led by Djokovic, Andy Murray of the Great Britain and the Swiss maestro, Roger Federer. Three singles berths are still vacant in the draw of the ATP World Tour Finals and the Paris Masters
will prove decisive for the last three qualifiers. Russia’s Dmitry Tursunov will replace Nadal in the main round draw of the Paris Masters.
