Rafael Nadal quits as the Vice President of Association of Tennis Professionals – Tennis News
World number two, Rafael Nadal, has quitted the job as the Vice President of the Association of Tennis Professionals. He is thought to have made the decision out of ‘frustration’ because his team mates and colleagues were not supporting
him. He was reported to have said that he was not happy from the board progress in the recent past and finally he ended his partnership with ATP. The words that were used by the Spaniard for the board of directors were that they are “not doing a very good
job”.
The problem that ignited this decision from the legendary tennis icon was mainly the proposal of using the two year’s ranking system instead of one. It also included other issues related to the pay scale of players that featured
in the four Grand Slam tournaments each year.
He proposed the two year ranking system on the basis that once a player is given some relaxation; it is going to prolong his career but his arch rival and another tennis legend, Roger Federer, opposed this idea.
Nadal hasn’t made any official statements yet but the confirmation of his resignation has been put forth by his team members in Miami where he is playing the masters tournament, Sony Ericsson Open. He might be unpleased with the
happenings inside the board but his performances at the hard courts of Miami must have eased his nerves.
This is what he stated after registering a success against the Czech contestant, Radek Stepanek, “I am just happy to be in the fourth round winning two matches with positive feeling and with comfortable results. I will just try
to keep doing well and try to keep improving a little bit the level.” He doesn’t want to lose concentration and affect his sublime run of form. He is still in the hunt to win his maiden title in 2012.
Next up for the Spanish number one is the Japanese professional, Kei Nishikori, who will try his level best to upset him. It is going to be an enthralling battle and will definitely attract massive crowd at the arena.
