Rafael Nadal says he has always the same motivation level at French Open – Tennis News
King of clay, Rafael Nadal, has shared that he tries to do his best and his motivation level remains at the same level every time the Spaniard participates at the French Open.
Nadal has already won six Roland Garros titles in seven years and is tied with legendary Swedish player, Bjorn Borg, in the race for most titles at the only Grand Slam played on clay courts.
The Spaniard said, “This tournament is enough important, not because now I have six [titles]. I have much more than I ever dreamed. I am coming here with motivation of every year with the illusion to play well, and then we will
see, no? But I’m not going to be more motivated because I have six and I can win seven. I was not more motivated when I arrived here in 2005 than today. I was not more motivated in 2010 when I lost in 2009. The motivation always is the same.”
Nadal said he has always liked Paris and felt comfortable here. The Spaniard also shared that he came to France with his family 10 years ago and he is in love with the place since then.
The 25-year-old is the player with best form on the ATP World Tour. He ended his seven match losing streak against reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters final, winning his first title of the
season.
The left-hander toppled his countryman, David Ferrer, in the final of Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell to win his record seventh title there. The 6ft 1in tall took revenge of his Internazionali BNL d’Italia title match loss at the
hands of Djokovic in 2011, by thrashing the Serbian in straight sets in this year’s final.
Nadal is pretty confident after performing at such high level, as he said, “I played fantastic tournaments in Monte-Carlo, Barcelona, and Rome. That's it.”
The Spaniard added that he has arrived in Paris with a positive attitude and will try his best to perform at his best throughout the tournament.
The Mallorca, Spain resident starts his Roland Garros campaign against world number 111, Simone Bolelli of Italy. This will be the third meeting between Nadal and Bolelli on the ATP World Tour. The Spaniard leads 2-0 in the head
to head record and remains favourite to make it 3-0. Their last meeting was in the round of 32 at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in 2010, when Nadal won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
