Rafael Nadal shares that he does not mind when his uncle Toni claps for his opponents – Tennis News
In his latest interview, Rafael Nadal has said that he does not feel bad when his uncle and coach, Toni Nadal, appreciate his opponents during the match.
It is rarely seen that family members or coaches of a player praise the opponent. However, the world number two stated that it’s the right thing if one claps for someone who has done something good and deserves appreciation.
Nadal said, “That’s normal, if somebody’s doing something really good, the normal thing is to congratulate the opponent and probably that’s what Toni does when he claps my opponent. But that’s not going to affect me during my matches.
I love to win, I love competition and I will try my best until the last moment, but I think other people understand competition differently to me.”
The Spanish star has been coached by his uncle since he was a child. Rafa’s parents, sister and girlfriend come to see only big matches but Uncle Toni is always there with him on the ATP World Tour. It has been always observed
from the King of Clay’s behaviour that he respects and loves Toni a lot.
After beating the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, Nadal looked extremely happy and went up in the stands to meet his family. He was kissed by most of his family members but then he rushed towards Toni and suddenly jumped
on him, with the latter holding the former in his lap. That was one of the sweetest scenes ever witnessed in a tennis stadium, as the world number two was looking like an innocent young child at that moment.
However, it’s an interesting fact that Rafa and Toni argue a lot on daily basis. Nadal shared, “We argue almost every day. We discuss about tennis, we discuss about football, we discuss about life, we discuss about a lot of things,
seriously. We don’t see things exactly in the same ways.”
Nadal also stated that he listen to his uncle and do the same even if he does not agree with him. He said sometimes he listens to his own self but 90 percent of the time he does what Toni say. The Spaniard also added that he completely
trusts Toni because he is his coach.
The 26-year-old is enjoying vacations at his home island these days. He will try to win his third title at the Wimbledon Championships in the coming days.
