Rafael Nadal still hopeful of reaching ATP Tour Finals semi-finals – Tennis News
World No.2, Rafael Nadal, faced a crushing defeat at the hands of legendry Swiss tennis icon, Roger Federer, in Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Despite the straight set 3-6, 0-6 thumping defeat at the hands of Swiss Maestro, Rafael
Nadal is still hopeful he can join Federer in the semi-finals.
Nadal said “Now is not the moment to be down and say goodbye, it is the moment to keep fighting. I'm still in the tournament and I will be in the semi-finals if I win the next match. I didn't play badly in the first set so I must
keep a positive attitude and just accept that he played better than me."
He accepted the fact that it was almost impossible to beat Roger Federer with that sublime form and on his favourite hard court surface at O2 Arena last evening on Tuesday November 22nd. He said “I accept he played a
fantastic level. Something that only one player like Roger can arrive at. When you play against Federer and he's playing like this the only way to stay in the match is to get free points with the serve and I couldn't do that.”
Spaniard had earlier defeated Swiss Maestro in the French Open Grand Slam final this year but he stated that this match was different as it was not a do or die situation for both of us so Nadal lacked the intensity to win this
encounter.
Nadal still has a life line and his next match is a ‘do or die’ situation as he squares-off against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. It is considered to be a relatively easier contest for Nadal but no one can say it for sure. This tournament
is comprised of world top 8 players and all of them are capable of pulling up major upsets just like World No.4, Roger Federer, did on Tuesday.
World No.2, Nadal, has not been 100% fit for a time now as he is struggling from a shoulder injury and recently, in his match against Mardy Fish, he struggled from a severe stomach pain. He fought through pain and triumphed over
Fish but not before he was tested to limits in that tense situation.
Spaniard proclaimed that he was not sure about his participation in the match till the evening because his stomach pain but during the match he felt completely perfect. He hopes that he stays fit for the upcoming match because
otherwise his dreams of moving into the last four will be shattered.
