Rafael Nadal still struggling from the knee pain – Tennis News
World number five, Rafael Nadal, couldn’t return with a trophy in his hands from the VTR Open at Chile. However, he is still ecstatic from the result. He stated, “I was two points away from winning the title.” The main thing was
that he wanted to test his knee. He further added, “A week ago we didn't know how the body would respond. Now at least I know we can compete at a certain level. I think that was a positive week. The knee is still bothering me, but you have to face adversity
with the best possible face and look forward to keep working and enjoy what I like the most, to play tennis. I will try to keep improving my physical sensations day by day, which is the most important thing because I don't feel that my tennis level is bad.
I need more time on court.”
It is good to see the fifth ranked Spaniard back in action but it was obvious that he wasn’t back to the full throttle. He is still gaining confidence and recovering; targets the clay court season for the complete recovery, a place
where he has conquered the titles for the last decade. The 11-time Grand Slam Champion was away from the professional circuit due to a knee injury. He lost in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships and didn’t return until the start of the VTR Open.
Nadal missed the Olympics that were hosted at London. He didn’t take part in the historic US Open Championship where the number one Briton, Andy Murray, won his first ever Grand Slam title of the career. He was not seen in the
Barclays Association of Tennis Professionals World Tour Finals as well. Moreover, the Australian Open 2013 also missed the existence of the 26-year-old Spaniard.
Fans are very glad to see the left-handed Spaniard back in action. The former world number one showed some class at the tournament in Chile but the stamina levels weren’t that high as expected. He still needs time to return back
in that emphatic form that allowed him to last six hours against the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the last year’s Australian Open final.
