Rafael Nadal unsure about Mubadala World Tennis Championship – Tennis News
Former world number one, Rafael Nadal, is still unsure about the Mubadala World Tennis Championship to be held in Abu Dhabi at the Zayed Sports City from December 27-29, 2012.
It is one of the leading exhibition tournaments including the participation of the leading tennis professionals, in order to bring them in practise for the Australian Open 2013.
The Spaniard informed the media, “I have the goal of returning in Abu Dhabi but neither Abu Dhabi nor Australia are the end of the world for me. I will only come back when I am fit. I won't come back worrying about my knee. I want to be 100 per cent in Monte Carlo and then prepare well for Roland Garros. I will hopefully be ready for Australia but I am only looking at tomorrow and continuing my recovery. Miracles do not exist and I am unlikely to return and compete for the Australian Open. The results will not worry me in the first tournaments back.”
The left-hander champion believes that he needs to be in perfect condition if he wants to start his campaign for the next year. He suffered from a chronic knee injury in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships in July 2012. This has always been a problem for him but this year due to a little off the guard twisting, became a major cause of his withdrawal.
Ever since that, the Spaniard was unable to contest for any other ATP tournament, giving a chance to the lower ranked professionals.
Due to his absence, the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, attained the world number one position after winning the Wimbledon title. He suffered from a big disappointment, as he was unable to become the flag bearer of Spain at the London 2012 Olympics. He was unable to defend his gold medal and eventually it was snatched away by the British number one, Andy Murray. Nadal was unable to participate at the US Open and at the Davis Cup finals, where his country suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Czech Republic.
Nevertheless, Nadal’s focus has never been at the hard courts of Melbourne. He is popularly known as the “king of clay” and has dominated on clay courts of Ronald Garros for a very long time. He aims to battle at the clay courts of Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters in the start of April and establish his domination at the French Open, once again.
