Rafael Nadal unwilling to commit anything stupendous on his comeback – Tennis News
Former world number one, Rafael Nadal, has clearly proclaimed that he does not want anyone to keep lot of expectations from him on his return to the professional circuit.
The depreciation in the world rankings is inevitable and there is no way that he can resume the play at the same level like the current season. He is not bidding to repeat the heroics of this year’s final of the Australian Open at the Rod Laver Arena in
January 2013. He needs time to settle into the atmosphere and aims at securing the lost rhythm by the start of the clay court season.
In an interview to the local radio station, Nadal stated, “I’d like to return in January, but I’m not expecting to win the Open. In the first events back, I won’t worry about the results.”
He further added, “I’m pleased with the recovery. It’s going well. I want to be at 100 per cent for Monte Carlo and the French Open.”
It is good to witness that the 26-year-old Spaniard is not going to put a lot of pressure on his injured knee that can result in a career-threatening damage at such an immature state of his career. He still has a good four years left in his 20’s and no one
wants to quit their professional sporting career before the age of 30. Hence, the care for the knee is essential to his survival and extension of career which is the main aim at the moment.
Nadal will return after a six-month injury layoff that started after the second round upset at the Wimbledon Championships in June. He did not take part in the London Olympics, US Open, Barclays World Tour Finals as well as the Davis Cup final tie in Prague.
He resumed practice in the past week and signed a deal to feature in next edition of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open that will commence on the last day of 2012.
The recovery will take time and therefore the rhythm will be build slowly. However, the eagerness to witness the old Nadal will never die in any tennis fanatic.
