Rafael Nadal withdraws from the Mubadala World Tennis Championship – Tennis News
Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal, will not take part in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship taking place at the Zayed City in Abu Dhabi due to his troubled stomach. His match was scheduled on the 28th
December 2012 with the winners of the match between Andy Murray and the Czech number one, Tomas Berdych.
In an interview with the media, Nadal said, “I am really sorry but I cannot compete this year in Abu Dhabi. Everything was ready and I was really eager to return to competition, but the doctors have forbidden me to participate
in Abu Dhabi because of a viral infection of the stomach which has provoked a fever. My feeling is good. I won Roland Garros and those emotions are still me. I have accepted it as normal, as part of my career, part of my job. All I can do. But people have
to realise that when you’re so many months without competing you need time to progress.”
The left-hander is completely out of touch from the field of competitive tennis due to unfortunate injured knee. He was unable to rally beyond the Czech junior, Lukas Rosol in the second round of the Wimbledon Championship. Since
that point on wards, he was unable to participate in any ATP Championship.
The 11-time Grand Slam winner was unable to defend his gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics. His absence created a great opportunity for emerging tennis professionals like Andy Murray, who bagged away his first gold medal in
men’s single. Furthermore, the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, sustained his world number one spot once again to register 302 weeks on the top of the men’s rankings.
The King of Clay, Nadal, definitely prioritizes his health over his temporary wins and he informed his fans to not to expect the same high graded performance as before. In the year 2012, he was the finalist of the Australian Open
held at the hard courts of Melbourne. However, he could not match the might of the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic. He successfully avenged his loss at the French Open, still expects to make wonders in 2013 clay court season.
