Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal from US Open will enhance Andy Murray’s winning chances – Tennis News
Tennis world was shaken up once again with drastic news about Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal from the US Open Championships. The world number three is still battling with his troublesome knee injury and after being sidelined from the
professional circuit for more than seven weeks, he announced on Facebook this Wednesday that he won’t feature the last Grand Slam event in New York.
Nadal’s sore knee has taken more than expected time to heal and has started to worry his fans. He incurred this injury during the Wimbledon Championships and was then forced to pull out of the Olympic Games in London, forfeiting
his gold medal defence in sheer dismay. He was expected to recover sooner to have an impactful return at the US Open Championships but it seems that he has hurt himself really bad this time.
"I am very sad to announce that I am still not ready to play and have to withdraw from this year's US Open in NYC," Nadal wrote on his Facebook page, which has 11 million fans. "I am sorry since I always found great crowds and
great support, but I have to continue with my recuperation and preparation to be ready to play in the right conditions. I want to say hi and thanks to all the fans in particular to the New Yorkers. I'll miss you all this year at the Open!"
Now with one of the Big Four out of the mega event, the coveted Grand Slam title is left open for the other three tennis titans, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. It is an old story now when Andy Murray wasn’t rated
among the hot favourites for winning the Grand Slam titles. The British number one has shown his true class earlier this season by winning the Olympic gold medal against Federer.
Murray’s emphatic triumph in London has sent clear indication that he is eyeing to win the US Open trophy this year. He has a very good habit of reaching the semi-final rounds of most of the Major tournaments, only to be defeated
mostly by the Spanish number one. Now with Nadal gone from the tournament draw, the path for Murray to reach the final of the Grand Slam has become relatively easier. Having defeated Federer recently in the Olympic gold medal match, the confidence level of
Murray will be sky high while stepping on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows. The Brit is rated as the hot favourite for winning the US Open Championships.
