Rafael Soriano opts out of his last season – New York Yankees Update
The New York Yankees relief pitcher has better things in mind about his future. He has opted out of his final year of his contract and filed for free agency.
Many earlier believed that the Yankees already knew during the season that Soriano will be opting out from his current contract but now it has been confirmed that he is looking for a more lucrative and lengthy deal.
“Scott Boras has told the player and us that he can get him $15 million a year for four years, We'd love to have him back, but I hope he holds Scott accountable if he doesn't get that," Yankees' president Randy Levine told the media and explained about the situation after Soriano opted out of the contract.
“It doesn’t surprise me,” team president Randy Levine added.
Soriano played with slight consistence in 2012 Major League Baseball season. He remained persistent on his 2.26 ERA along 42 saves, 69 strike-outs and 1.17 WHIP.
His 10-year big league experience also makes him a pricey player in this year’s free agency market. He also has been quite consistent all those ten years which he spent in the league. He is currently carrying a career 2.78 ERA along with 132 saves, 527 strike-outs and 1.05 WHIP.
Later Soriano’s agent Scott Boras also said in the media and described all the possible details about Soriano’s contract and the next potential deal in the league, “Randy and I had a discussion, He requested we make an offer. [Soriano] had a great experience in New York and was very successful. The Yankees remain [among] the clubs he wants to look at and continue to play for. I never make promises to clients what the market will be.”
Soriano has a large experience in the league. He started his career in 2002 with the Seattle Mariners while later he went on to play for the Atlanta Braves and Tampa Bay Rays.
With this huge experience and consistent plays, the Yankees certainly do not want him to sign anywhere else. They will be making some kind of adjustment in negotiating terms to bring in Soriano for next couple of seasons.
