Rafael Van Der Vaart thinks Tottenham Hotspur
should stop losing to lesser teams
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Rafael Van Der Vaart, believes that his team should avoid dropping points against lower tier clubs in order to compete for the Premier League title.
Spurs have been in decent form in the ongoing 2010-11 season and are placed fifth on the league table with 49 points from 29 matches played so far. However, Spurs have drawn too many matches against the bottom placed teams. Their UEFA Champions League form
has also been pretty decent this season. The North Londoners have qualified for the quarter-finals in their first ever campaign. The Lilywhites will take on Real Madrid in the last eight round next week.
Van Der Vaart thinks that his team has played excellent football against the top sides but the problem area for them has been their away form.
He told reporters, "Tottenham are still in the process of developing. In our last three league games against Blackpool, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 and West Ham we've taken just two points. But it ought to have been nine, and that is stupid. We do very well against the bigger
clubs, but we mess up too much against the smaller sides. Maybe that is the final step that we need to take. We have sufficient money to remain in the title race with the other big clubs."
The 28-year-old is in his debut season with the club since joining for approximately 9 million pounds from Spanish side Real Madrid. The Dutchman has been in superb form throughout the season and has been a pivotal figure behind their success. The former
Ajax star has scored 12 goals in 26 matches in all competitions this season.
Van Der Vaart has no intention of leaving Tottenham, as he wants to win trophies here and believes that the club is capable of doing it. Spurs are fighting for a UEFA Champions League spot for next season and Van Der Vaart believes that if the club is successful
in qualifying for the competition they could attract more big name players in the summer.
