The Tottenham Hotspur was disappointed following Netherlands’ poor performance at European Championship, and revealed that everyone was responsible in the Oranje’s elimination.
Rafael van der Vaart has expressed his disappointment following http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032, and has admitted that everyone is to be blamed for their abysmal showings.
Despite being drawn in the toughest group of the competition along with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denmark-c2884, the Oranje were favourites to make progression to the quarter-finals. However, they surprisingly failed to bag even a single
point in their three fixtures, and finished at the bottom of the Group B.
Van der Vaart, who has been donning the jersey of the Flying Dutchmen since making his debut in 2001, admitted that the way his side played was totally unacceptable.
“It's a huge disappointment. You can always go out in a group like this, but not in this way. I understand the criticism. The way we played was unacceptable”, the former Real Madrid star was quoted as saying to the Kicker.
Following their poor run at European Championships, many are calling for Bert van Marwijk’s scalp. However, Van der Vaart, who only started in a single game in the competition, has backed the former Borussia Dortmund boss to continue
as the Flying Dutchmen head coach.
“People often make wrong decisions in the heat of the moment. I don't have anything against it if Van Marwijk continues. He was successful at the World Cup and stuck with that team. A lot of players weren't in top form, though”,
the midfield ace added.
The 29-year-old, who started his professional career at Ajax Amsterdam in the 2000/01 season, has thus far represented Netherlands in 99 matches, and does not intend to hang up his boots at this point of his career.
“Of course I will continue as an international. I don't feel like the calls for rejuvenation are aimed directly at me. We are all to blame for what happened”, Van der Vaart concluded.
The midfield ace will return to pitch while donning the jersey of the Oranje, when they take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 in an international friendly in Brussels on August 15.
