Schalke are looking to bring in Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Rafael van der Vaart and Chelsea striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266 in the summer transfer window, head coach Huub Stevens confirmed.
Stevens has previously coached Van der Vaart while at Hamburg and is aware of the quality of the 29-year-old. He revealed he was looking forward to reuniting with the Dutchman at Schalke, if a deal could go through with the English Premier League side Tottenham
Hotspur.
In addition to bringing in Van der Vaart, Stevens is also looking to sign Blues striker Salomon Kalou, who will be out of contract at the end of June. The Ivory Coast international has hinted at a move away, but it is not yet certain where he will end up.
While Van der Vaart’s agent confirmed that they had received interest from the Bundesliga side, the player himself played down speculation regarding a move away. He revealed he was happy at White Hart lane and would stay with the London side past the summer.
However, Stevens remains adamant in his attempts to bring Van der Vaart to Schalke. The German side’s manager was certain the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 international would bring much needed quality to his side, but he said he was willing to wait until after the European
Championships.
Stevens said in an interview:
“His qualities are unprecedented. I would love to work with him again. We have contacts with his agent. Every day I speak to Horst Heldt [Schalke's general manager] on the phone about our plans.
There are rumours circulating that Rafael would return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904. But I have not heard from his mouth. I have not spoken with him and we'll have to see after Euro 2012 .”
The Schalke coach was also looking forward to signing Kalou, who is looking for a move away from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
He revealed:
“Kalou is a Bosman player this summer. It's obvious; there are many other clubs keen on him. Liverpool for example. But I know for sure he wants to move away from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. This could be our chance!”
