Rafael van der Vaart confident Tottenham Hotspur can manage without Chelsea bound http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857
Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Rafael van der Vaart revealed he felt his side were good enough to finish in the top four of the English Premier League this season. The Dutchman said the Spurs would still be a top side if Luka Modric left for London rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
The Blues have had two bids rejected for the 25-year-old Croatian midfielder, but are determined to bring him to Stamford Bridge in this summer transfer window. They are expected to make another bid in the upcoming days.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy has remained consistent on his stance on keeping Modric, but Spurs manager Harry Redknapp seems to be accepting his departure. Redknapp revealed that he felt the club would benefit from the money received from Modric’s
sale.
Van der Vaart had previously claimed that he expected Modric to stay at White Hart Lane, but recently admitted that there was a possibility that the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 international could leave for Chelsea. He insisted that he did not want Modric to leave since he
was a top class player.
At the same time though, Van der Vaart said he was confident the Spurs could manage fine without him. He revealed that the London side had plenty of players who could serve as a replacement for Modric, if he did indeed decide to leave.
Van der Vaart said while speaking to reporters:
“There is a lot of speculation about Luka and we don't know when he is going to leave.
I hope he will stay, but we still have plenty of other fantastic players and a team good enough to finish in the top four.”
According to Van der Vaart, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Niko-Kranjcar-c27926 could prove to be a suitable replacement for Modric. The 27-year-old is also from Croatia, but plays a different role in midfield. While Modric is more of a defensive midfielder, Kranjcar plays an attacking game.
He continued:
“If he leaves then Kranjcar is a fantastic player and he's a little bit like Luka, he can play there.”
Kranjcar joined Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2009 from Portsmouth for an estimated fee of £2.5 million. Since then he has made a total of 42 appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham Hotspur and has scored 12 goals.
The former Real Madrid player said he believed it was not really necessary to spend big to win big, referring to Manchester City and Manchester United. Both clubs brought in new players in the summer transfer window, hoping they made a difference in the
new season.
Van der Vaart felt the Spurs would do well even if they did not make any further signings, which is most likely going to be the case. The fantastic 5-0 win over Hearts in the UEFA Europa League play-off gave the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 international hope of a successful
season ahead.
Van der Vaart said:
“We have a good squad and when we play like we did against Hearts, we know we can win against everybody.
Manchester City have spent a lot of money this summer, and so have Manchester United. But we are different at Tottenham, and it's not a problem for me.”
