Tottenham Hotspur winger Rafael van der Vaart has revealed the club are not worried about retaining the third spot in the English Premier League.
The Holland international was certain the defeat would not have too bad an effect on the Spurs and they could return to winning ways in their next fixture against Manchester United. While he admitted it was a tough task, he was confident they could go on
to secure a UEFA Champions League spot.
Spurs suffered a 5-2 defeat to Arsenal in the English Premier League, which leaves them seven points clear of fourth and fifth place http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 respectively. They take on Manchester United next weekend and stand the chance of dropping more points
against the Red Devils.
Van der Vaart said while speaking to reporters:
"This is football and we had a bad day, that's all, it's just a game and we lost. We're still seven points ahead so we're not worried.
It won't be difficult to lift ourselves.”
However, Van der Vaart was certain Tottenham Hotspur would manage to lift themselves after the embarrassing defeat to Arsenal in the north-London derby. The opportunity to be the best London side in the English Premier League in 17 years is too good to pass
by and the Spurs will make the most of the opportunity.
Meanwhile, Van der Vaart revealed the current international break could be bad for the Spurs since some of the players would be participating in the friendlies for their respective countries.
He revealed:
“It's always difficult after the international break but the confidence is there and we showed in the first half that we are still a top team.
Manchester United are a strong team and always difficult to beat but we're playing at home and we always play well at home.”
That did not in any way mean the Spurs would not be at their best against the Red Devils, Rafael van der Vaart confirmed. He revealed they were determined to secure the third spot on the Premier League to make sure they earned a place in next season’s UEFA
Champions League.
Van der Vaart continued:
“Third is our main goal now and I'm really confident we can finish there.”
