Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Rafael van der Vaart has revealed he was surprised by Roy Hodgson’s decision to leave http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 out of the squad for the European Championship.
According to the 29-year-old it was strange that the new England manager Roy Hodgson had decided to not include Manchester United defender in his squad for the Euro 2012. Rafael van der Vaart claimed he did not understand the England manager’s decision to
leave out arguably one of the best defenders in the game.
Van der Vaart said in an interview:
“It surprised me because I think he's still one of the best defenders in England, and maybe in the world. Of course, he's a little bit older now, but he's still fit and fresh and he played for Manchester United.”
With the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kyle-Walker-c21566 already ruled out of the tournament due to various injuries, it comes as a surprise that Ferdinand has not been called up. Along with problems in defence, England have lost many
experienced players in midfield.
From http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Wilshere-c17463, all three players have been made unavailable for the European tournament. However, Van der Vaart believed the Three Lions still possessed the quality to do well in the competition.
He revealed:
“They still have a great team. It's a pity for them that Lampard is injured, but they have so many good players. They have a new manager, so maybe they'll play a little bit different now. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 are always a danger to play against.”
With so many players having picked up injuries, Hodgson has had to call up youngsters to replace the experienced ones. Amongst them are http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348 revealed he was certain the midfielder
and defender would do well for England in the European competition, even though they did not necessarily have the required experience.
Kuyt said:
“There's only one decision to make - he has to make the best possible team. I'm sure http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martin-Kelly-c24395 and Henderson will do well.”
